Why so many divorced ladies?
The divorce rate in Russia is actually lower than that in Europe or the USA, but for a divorced woman in Russia or Ukraine it is very difficult to find a new partner, especially if she has children - That is why there are so many divorced women looking for partners abroad, particularly over 25 years old.

Many Russian and Ukrainian women have had terrifying experiences in their marriages and are afraid to marry a 'local' man again. Of course not all these men are bad  (many have been happily married since their early 20s) but being an unfaithful abusive husband who doesn't do anything to help around the house and still leaves the role of breadwinner to his wife is still common. Women hope (and hear) that foreign men are different.

Many divorces occur in Ukraine and Russia simply because couples marry too early. Many couples marry between the ages of 17 and 25! They have not had a chance to see life and may grow apart with years - Their values change. Most of these marriages are between two people that have yet to reach their true potential They possibly never will if they stay together because they immediately start a family and that takes up all their time.

Alcohol, physical abuse and unfaithfulness are cited amongst common reasons for divorce in Russia and Ukraine, but these are often the consequences of early marriages where growing frustrations manifest themselves in anti-social behavior.

Also, it is common for a woman to stay in a failing or abusive relationship simply because she fears being alone for life. It is very difficult for a divorced woman to find another husband, and she cannot support her children on her own. Many ex-husbands in former Soviet countries don't pay maintenance or want to see their children. As the saying goes, "Better the devil you know" - Women usually stay in their relationships for as long as they can stand it. Divorces are the last resort. This is even more the case in the provinces rather than major cities, where the divorce culture has become more westernised.

Being divorced in Russia or Ukraine is not a stigma, but the traditional marital roles of men and women still persist. It is easier for a woman to be married because she would struggle on her own. For many men housekeeping is a foreign and daunting task, so it's easier when there's a woman around to take care of it.

All this goes to explain why there are so many divorced ladies using our service, and many have children - Having taken the "final" step and got divorced, they yearn for a more stable and secure future for themselves and their child or children, and look to Western culture, where traditions (and the law) are more focused against abusive relationships. It is also a good explanation of why marriages between Russian/Ukrainian ladies and Western gentlemen are more likely to last - The divorce rate between these couples is far less than the national averages in Europe and the USA.
